General Information of Agricultural Chitosan

Chitosan is similar to chitin, a natural plant nutrient growth promoter--the raw material of foliar fertilizer, and the foliar fertilizer compounded by chitosan can not only kill insects, resist diseases, but also play the role of fertilizer , and can decompose animal and plant residues and trace metal elements in the soil, thereby converting them into plant nutrients, enhancing plant immunity, and promoting plant health; shrimp shells and crab shells are rich in protein and trace elements, which can be absorbed by animals Finally, it has good nutritional value.

Raw Material of Agricultural Chitosan

Chitosan Polymer related products mainly derived from the shell of crab and shrimp skin. it is typically nature based and can be regenerated.

Application of Agricultural Chitosan

The role of chitosan on crops

1. Regulating plant growth Chitosan can increase the germination rate, plant height, weight per plant, root length, leaf area, etc. of crops. Increase crop output, such as increasing the output of grain crops such as wheat, rice, corn, and soybean; it can also increase the output of vegetables such as cucumber, cabbage, tomato, and potato.

2. Improve the quality of crops Chitosan can significantly increase the protein content of crops. In addition, it can increase the content of vitamin C, total soluble sugar, and reduce the content of crude fiber. Therefore, chitosan can achieve the purpose of improving the nutritional quality of crops, making them more nutritious and of higher commodity value.

3. Inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria Chitosan can improve the activity of crops and the ability to resist diseases and insect pests. Studies have shown that between plant pathogenic bacteria and parasitic plants, chitosan can hinder the germination and growth of spores of plant pathogenic bacteria, and induce the protective function of pathogen infection.

4. Environmental protection, compared with other plant regulators, organic chitosan has the advantages of natural, environmental compatibility, high activity, and easy degradation. Therefore, it has great development prospects in agriculture.

Specific application examples of chitosan in agriculture

The following examples include the application of different concentrations of chitosan solutions in seed soaking, coating, foliage spraying, soil improvement and preservation

① Seed soaking
Seed soaking can be used for field crops as well as vegetables, e.g.
Corn: provide chitosan solution with a concentration of 0.1%, and mix it with 1 times of water when used, that is, after dilution
Chitosan concentration of 0.05% can be used for soaking corn seeds.

For example, with a concentration of 0.1%, 1000ML of chitosan solution, when used, add 1000ML of water to obtain a total of 2000ML, which can be put into 1.67KG of corn seeds. Turn twice in the middle of soaking so that the seeds are evenly soaked. Soak for 16 hours, dry and sow.
Cucumber: Provide chitosan solution with 1% concentration, mix it with 5.7 times of clear water when using it, that is, the diluted chitosan concentration is 0.15%, which can be used for soaking cucumber seeds.

For example, the chitosan solution with a concentration of 1% and 100ML is mixed with 570ML of water to obtain a total of 670ML, which can be put into 0.6KG cucumber seeds. The soaking process should be turned twice to make the seeds evenly soaked. Soak for 24 hours, dry and sow.

② Coating
Coatings can be used on field crops as well as vegetables, e.g.

Soybean: Provide 1% chitosan solution, spray soybean seeds directly with it, and stir while spraying, so that the seeds are evenly wrapped by chitosan solution. Every 100ML chitosan solution (that is, every gram of chitosan) can treat 1KG soybean seeds. This method can obviously promote the growth of root system, protein synthesis and yield.

Cabbage: Provide 1% chitosan solution, which is directly used to spray cabbage seeds, and stir while spraying to make it even. Every 100ML chitosan solution (that is, every gram of chitosan) can treat 1.67KG cabbage seeds.
For seed treatment to promote root growth: provide 1% concentration of chitosan solution sprayed seeds, each 100ML solution can treat 1.25KG seeds.

③ Growth-promoting foliar sprays

According to the currently available information, foliar sprays are mainly used for vegetable crops, such as:
Chinese cabbage: provide 0.1% chitosan solution, add 24 times of water when using, to make the concentration of chitosan
Degree of dilution to 40ppm (0.004%).

For example, every 1000ML of the solution with this concentration is mixed with 24000ML of clear water when used, and a total of 25000ML is obtained for spraying the foliage. For cabbage, when the cotyledons are fully expanded, spray for the first time, and then spray once every 4 days, and spray 5 times in total.

For vegetables that promote root growth; provide 0.1% chitosan solution, and then add 49 times of water to dilute the chitosan concentration to 20ppm (0.002%). The spraying method can refer to cabbage or cucumber.

For example, for every 1000ML of this concentration solution, add 49000ML of clear water when using it, and a total of 50000ML can be used to dry spray the leaves to promote root growth.

Cucumber: Provide 0.1% chitosan solution, add 9 times of clear water to dilute the concentration to
100ppm (0.01%).

For example, every 1000ML of the solution with this concentration is mixed with 9000ML of clear water when used, and a total of 10000ML is obtained for spraying the leaves.

Spray until the leaves are completely wet, subject to no dripping. For cucumbers, spray for the first time when the three leaves and one heart grow, and then spray once every 7 days for a total of 4 times.

④Foliar sprays for inhibiting pathogenic bacteria and resisting pests and diseases

Provide a chitosan solution with a concentration of 1%. When in use, it can be sprayed directly on the leaves without adding water. If it is used as a precaution, the concentration of chitosan can be diluted to 0.2%, that is, it can be mixed with 4 times of water when used.
For example, as a prophylaxis, a 1% solution may be provided. When in use, mix 400ML of water into 100ML of the solution to obtain a total of 500ML for foliar spraying.

⑤ Soil conditioner

The soil improver can effectively inhibit the reproduction of pathogenic bacteria in the soil, can promote the growth of crops, and has the advantages of stable antibacterial effect, long duration, no pollution, and low cost. Ten soil improvers are suitable for dry fields and paddy fields, especially for soil improvement in greenhouses.

The soil conditioner provides a chitosan solution with a concentration of 0.1%. When using it, it is mixed with 3 times of clear water to dilute the chitosan concentration to 250ppm (0.025%).

For example, 1000ML of chitosan solution with a concentration of 0.1% is mixed with 3000ML of water when used, and a total of 4000ML is obtained. Every 100m2 land needs 6000ML diluent. The diluent can be mixed with carriers such as zeolite powder or diatomaceous earth or sawdust, and then applied to the soil after being absorbed and dried. The diluent can also be used after being mixed with fertilizers (such as urea, etc.), or blended with fertilizers and other adsorption carriers.

⑥ Preservative

Experiments have shown that when cotton tissue cells are soaked in chitosan solution with a concentration of 0.1%~1%, its antibacterial effect is enhanced with the increase of chitosan concentration and deacetylation degree. Chitosan solution with 1% concentration can inhibit the growth of 90% pathogenic bacteria, and chitosan solution with 0.02% concentration can also hinder the proliferation of Escherichia coli. Therefore, as a preservative, the concentration of chitosan can be selected from 0.5% to 1%.

Another data shows that spraying a solution of carboxymethyl chitosan with a concentration of 0.7% to 2% on the surface of apples, pears, peaches, strawberries and other fruits can achieve the purpose of keeping fresh.
